Father Joseph

We are grateful to have Father Joseph to celebrate Mass with us at the Chapel every Sunday morning. Father Joseph hails from Kerala in India, and is a Carmelite priest resident here in Madeira

Reflections by Deacon Tito

The Rev Deacon Tito was born in Madeira and spent part of his childhood in Madeira before immigrating to the United Kingdom in the 1970s with his parents. He has worked in the Diocese of Westminster as a deacon since 2007. He regularly assists at Mass at the Chapel, as well as contributing articles to our newsletter.

In 2023 he received the Benemerenti medal, in recognition of his services of over 35 years to his parish in Acton and as a deacon since 2007.

Reflections by Deacon Tito

A sad Goodbye to Father Thomas.

Father Thomas celebrated his last Mass with our Community on Palm Sunday as he has decided to return to India to serve the community in his province back home. We thank Father Thomas for his service over the
last two years, especially during Father Bernardino’s illness and after he passed away. During his 2 years in Madeira, Father Thomas has learnt Portuguese and was able to celebrate Mass (in Portuguese!) for the community at Igreja do Carmo in Funchal.

From My Heart to Your Heart

day_prayer_father

Our beloved priest, Father Bernardino, passed away on the 18th January, 2024. Over his long ministry he touched the hearts and inspired many people with his message of love. His funeral was held on Saturday, the 20th January, at the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Luz in Ponta do Sol at 11a.m.

A special commemoration of Father Bernardino's life was conducted at the English Mass at the Chapel of Penha da França on the 19th January, 2024).
